We want to show our appreciation for our Health Connectors time and commitment to Healthwatch Darlington. We will regularly select one Health Connector that has stood out through their personal development and enthusiasm to receive recognition as 'Volunteer of the month'
Jamie Odgers - March 2018
Jamie’s personal development and enthusiasm has grown in these last few months which has been recognised by the whole team at Healthwatch Darlington. Jamie always goes above and beyond and we couldn’t be happier to award him with this recognition.
Jamie moved to Darlington in 2017 from Ireland to live with his fiancée Kayleigh. Jamie has a love for watching sports particularly football and wrestling. Jamie has a background in computing which has been a huge help to the team.
How did you find out about volunteering opportunities with Healthwatch Darlington?
“My fiancée’s aunty told me about opportunities to assist with social media at Healthwatch Darlington and I wasn’t doing much with my spare time so I decided to give it a go.”
Why did you decide to join the team?
“The opportunity was a great chance for me to expand my skills and experience and to fill my time.”
What has been a highlight of your volunteering experience so far?
“My highlight so far has been the opportunity to meet members of the public in the community and to be around new people.”
Do you have any tips for anyone considering volunteering for Healthwatch Darlington?
“Do it because everybody is so friendly and you don’t have to commit to volunteering every day. You can work your volunteering around your own time. When I first met the team they were lovely people and very welcoming.”
Chief Executive Officer, Michelle Thompson BEM
“Jamie is a great addition to Healthwatch Darlington and we wanted the whole of Darlington to know that! His fantastic "can do" attitude and friendly approach has attracted more people to come over and chat to us in our community outreach sessions. His social media skills have enabled us to provide more online information and support on a whole range of topics and this has added to our reach and followers on Facebook. Not only that, his research skills are also helping the team gather data needed for our reports. Thank you so much Jamie, we're glad you’re part of our team!”
Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator, Jemma Austin
“Jamie has assisted me at various outreach sessions across the community and it has been a pleasure to watch him to talk to members of the public. He is a very polite, well-mannered and a friendly individual and because of this we have received excellent feedback. Jamie has developed his skills and confidence tremendously over the last few months and he is always up for learning new things. Thank you for your hard work.”
