Darlington Support appeals for new NHS responders to join their ranks

The Darlington Support charity is asking NHS responders to help swell its ranks to ensure volunteers stay connected as lockdown eases – because the vulnerable still need support.

NHS Volunteer Responders support with simple but vital tasks including driving people to and from hospital, delivering medication, and telephone befriending. Volunteers will also support the NHS to transport equipment and supplies. NHS Volunteer Responders are not intended to replace local groups helping their vulnerable neighbours but is an additional service provided by the NHS.

Darlington Support was set up to ease pressures of coronavirus and today assists residents with shopping, prescriptions and dog-walking.

Haughton councillor and charity trustee Chris McEwan, said:

"NHS volunteers have the potential of making a positive impact in our town if they join Darlington Support and start receiving information about new volunteering opportunities across the town.

"By inviting these kind-hearted individuals to join, we are ensuring that there is one local strong group in Darlington to create a positive legacy out of this difficult situation."

The charity also recently helped distribute hundreds of our Healthwatch Darlington leaflets - with the help of our very own Volunteer Health Connector Sue Kirk - to local residents encouraging them to get in touch with us about any concerns they have or guidance they need regarding their local health and social care services in Darlington. Thank you!!
