This opportunity will support you to learn the fundamentals of admin and give you experience day to day running of a busy Local Authority service. There are currently exciting apprenticeship opportunities within Darlington Borough Council. You will be supported to complete a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Business Administration. This opportunity will support you to learn the fundamentals of admin and give you experience day to day running of a busy Local Authority service. The apprentices duties will include:

  • To provide front line support to managers and employees as part of the team
  • To undertake a range of business support tasks such as managing your own emails, filing, copying, scanning, faxing, archiving, post, answering the telephone and taking messages
  • To help develop and maintain efficient administrative systems and processes which support the delivery of the service
  • To input, update and audit records both manually and electronically on multiple systems, extracting basic information within set parameters and producing required reports
  • To undertake tasks as required which may be of a sensitive and confidential nature
  • To copy type from notes, including completing standardised templates
  • To provide support via by telephone, email and face to face and ensure that queries are dealt with effectively and efficiently
  • To carry out routine invoicing and create purchase orders
  • To take notes at meetings as required
  • To provide facilities management including setting up rooms for meetings/training ensuring the required equipment and resources are available and assisting attendees where special requirements are needed
  • To perform diary management functions including arranging and re-arranging meetings and room bookings
  • To be an effective and flexible team member to ensure that requirements are met
  • To ensure that you work in line with all the Council’s policies and procedures and ensure that you are aware of your obligations under these
  • To behave according to the Employees’ Code of Conduct and ensure that you are aware of your obligations and responsibilities re: conflicts of interest, gifts, hospitality and other matters covered by the Code
  • To carry out your role in line with the Council’s Equality agenda.
  • To comply with health and safety policies, organisational statements and procedures, report any incidents / accidents/ hazards and take a pro-active approach to health and safety matters in order to protect yourself and others
  • Any other duties of a similar nature related to this post that may be required from time-to-time

Training will take place periodically at our training centre in Darlington (DL1 5AJ) and/or remotely as required, to work towards the theory elements of the framework. The other days will be spent working with your employer gaining the skills and knowledge required to complete your Apprenticeship. Qualifications you will work towards are:

  • L3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship Standard
  • Functional Skills in maths, English and ICT (as required)
