DNACPR (Do Not Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) Campaign

Inclusion North are working with Learning Disability England, Difference North East and British Institute of Human Rights to ask the Ministerial Oversight Group on Do Not Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation to involve people with lived experience.

The Ministerial Oversight Group was set up after the Care Quality Commission wrote a report called ‘Protect, Respect, Connect – decisions about living and dying well during Covid-19’.

This report showed that during Covid decisions about Do Not Resuscitate were made that were not in line with people’s wishes or human rights. Some people were affected more than others by this.

People with a learning disability, older people and people with dementia were particularly affected.  Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic people were less likely to know that a Do Not Resuscitate decision had existed for them.

Over 80 organisations have signed the letter we made for the Ministerial Oversight Group, to show them this is an issue that lots of us have concerns about and to encourage the group to listen and act.

Social posts:

We would be grateful if you can support the campaign through social media using the suggested posts below and using the hashtag #DNACPR and #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs

Please tag @InclusionNorth in your posts.

  1. Today we stand alongside 262 groups and individuals calling for people with lived experience to be full and equal members of the Ministerial Oversight Group on Do Not Attempt Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation. Nothing About Us Without Us
  1. Nothing about us without us
  1. People with lived experience are the experts on why some groups of people were discriminated against during Covid around how Do Not Resuscitate was used
  1. Unless people with lived experience are part of the Ministerial Oversight Group poor practice around DNACPR will keep happening and will not be challenged strongly enough
  1. It is not good enough to have a Ministerial Oversight Group set up without any representation of the people who are affected directly by poor practice in DNACPR
  1. Unless people with lived experience are involved as full Ministerial Oversight Group members, nothing will happen to make a big enough difference to our lives
  1. We are asking for real involvement, where the Ministerial Oversight Group recognises the expertise people with lived experience bring as being equal to their own professional experience

We hope you can help us spread this message and we really appreciate your support.
