Durham Community Action - Upcoming Training Workshops (June & July)

DCA are regularly running a number of Community Development Workshops in June and July to assist voluntary and community groups to manage their organisations effectively.

All workshops take place online and are fully funded; attendance is free although booking in advance is required to secure places. Please click on the links below for full details.

Volunteer Recruitment

Thursday 1st June 10.00 - 11.30am

This session for those responsible for volunteer recruitment will cover understanding the recruitment process, how to diversify recruitment, writing an attractive role description, and promoting your recruitment opportunities. 

Protecting your Charity's Finances

Tuesday 6th June 10.00 - 11.30am

This session will cover the practicalities of managing finance for your organisation, developing a financial controls policy to minimise risk and planning for future sustainability.

Completing a Funding Application: Bring your Project to Life!

Thursday 22nd June 10.00 - 11.30am

This session will support you to complete a funding application, and will cover understanding the basics of applying for grant funding, how to link your project to a funders’ criteria and a demonstration of the Durham4Community grant finder programme. 

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Workshop

Thursday 22nd June 12.30 - 3.00pm

This session will be hosted by Lizzie Whittington, Regional Outreach Adviser from the Partnerships Team, Strategy and Performance Directorate at Disclosure and Barring Service.

 

Health and Safety for Trustees within the Voluntary Sector

Tuesday 18th July 10.00 - 11.30am

This session will cover understanding trustees’ responsibilities for health and safety in their organisation, establishing what needs to be included in a policy, understanding basic Health and Safety law and identifying relevant health and safety needs for staff and managers. 

Volunteering and the Law

Thursday 20th July 10.00 - 11.30am

This online session aimed at those responsible for volunteer management.will cover how the law applies to recruiting, supporting and managing volunteers, understanding the Disclosure and Barrings process and when it is required, using the correct language when recruiting volunteers, and identifying the difference between good practice and the law when working with volunteers.
