Darlington scoops Gold and awarded category winners in RHS Britain in Bloom awards!

Darlington has been recognised, once again, for its floral brilliance, and was awarded category winners and Gold in the annual RHS Britain in Bloom floral awards, beating Harrogate BID, and Romford BID, London.

The following is directly from Darlington Borough Council.

Following our huge success in the 2022 Northumbrian in Bloom awards, where South Park and the town centre scooped golds and Darlington was awarded best overall entry, we were invited to take park in the prestigious RHS Britain in Bloom awards.

Britain in Bloom judges visited the town in July and have recognised and rewarded the town for outstanding floral displays in the business improvement district, town centre and city centre categories.

Our horticulture, parks, and town centre teams, along with volunteers, including friends of the parks groups, Darlington Cares, Street Champions, as well as residents and business owners worked brilliantly together all year round, to present our floral attributes the best they could. When the judges visited our town in July, our parks, town centre and open spaces all looked glorious, which secured our bloom to victory once again - beating Harrogate BID, and Romford BID, London to be crowned floral first and awarded gold in the BIDs, Town Centre & City Centres category.

Stephen Harker, leader of the council, said:

“We are absolutely delighted our town’s and villages’ floral displays have been once again recognised and rewarded in these prestigious, national awards. Our horticulture and park teams, together with friends of the park, volunteers, Street Champions, Darlington Cares, and of course businesses and residents work so hard all year round and rightly deserve the recognition of such fantastic collaborative work”.

He added:

“It’s only a few weeks ago that we scooped two gold medals in this year’s regional Northumbria in Bloom floral awards, and I really can’t thank everyone involved enough for all their hard work and dedication”.
