Volunteer Opportunities with Citizens Advice

The Citizens Advice Darlington Office are currently seeking volunteer placements for Adviser and the Receptionist Team members.

Knowing the community, means listening and supporting people as they support themselves. What better place to understands what is going on in the heart of your community, than volunteering for Citizens Advice in the Darlington Office?

• Do you want to support your local community to access invaluable advice, information and support at a time of great need? 

• Do you want to meet people with similar values that want to make a positive impact, just make new friends or keep your mind active? 

• Can you volunteer 4 hours a week or more, Monday to Friday?

Details of the Roles 

Generalist Adviser - Monday to Friday 9.45 to 1pm - 4 hours or more a week. 

You would support a client to understand their rights, you would use systems to research the information they need, discuss this with your supervisor and ensure the client understands their next steps to progress the case. You would check capability and if they lacked capability, you may make calls, collate letters or refer for further support into the service projects or other services. You would have full support at all stages and it is very rewarding to help someone solve their problem. 

Reception Team - Monday to Friday - 4 hours or more per week 

9.45 - 1pm - This is during the client drop - in session. You would be the first person to greet the client, register the client onto the system and help them navigate into the service. You would answer the phone and transfer calls or explain open times. 

Or 12.45 to 4 pm - This is a quieter time to help client to access appointments, crisis support or signpost to services. 

They also have other numerous roles within their office - Administration to support the team, Research and Campaigns Team member, Support worker to help people to engage and do tasks. For all roles you would receive high-quality training, gain skills or use existing skills & knowledge to benefit the local community.
