Resident Doctors’ Strike: 17–22 December

Resident doctors working in hospitals who are members of the British Medical Association will take part in five days of industrial action from 7am on Wednesday 17 December until 7am Monday 22 December 2025.

County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust are prioritising emergency and acute care, so patients needing urgent treatment will still be seen.

Please use non-hospital services where possible:
 
  • NHS 111 online, via the NHS app, or call 111
  • GP practices – open as usual
  • Walk-in centres
  • Pharmacies
If you have a hospital appointment or procedure, you will be contacted if it needs rescheduling. If not, attend as normal.

More people reporting a better overall hospital experience than last year, but patient satisfaction still far lower than five years ago

The results of the latest annual survey of hospital inpatients published today (9 September) by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) reveal that patient satisfaction levels have improved slightly in the past year with a greater number of respondents rating their overall experience as nine or ten out of ten. However, the results still indicate that many aspects of inpatient care are worse than pre pandemic and show that waiting times and access to treatment are a continued frustration.
