Darlington’s Green Spaces: New DOVES scheme

Darlington is home to a remarkable network of parks, woodlands, and nature reserves — each cared for by dedicated volunteers who make sure these spaces remain vibrant, welcoming, and full of life. Through the Darlington Open Spaces Volunteer Environment Scheme (DOVES), residents are helping wildlife flourish and ensuring that every green space is cared for.

From The Denes and Rockwell Local Nature Reserve to Stanhope Park and South Park, these areas provide havens for wildlife and peaceful retreats for residents. Many of today’s reserves have even been reclaimed from abandoned industrial sites — a testament to Darlington’s commitment to renewal and sustainability.

Most of Darlington’s green spaces sit right within residential areas, offering easy access to fresh air and natural beauty.
