WEA (Workers' Education Association)

Join the world of online learning with the WEA!

Despite being around as a voluntary education provider since 1903, many people are not aware of the WEA, which is a shame because they offer a wide range of adult learning taught by qualified adult education tutors. The courses they offer are both skills and interests based and are as varied as gaining a Teaching Assistant Qualification, bread making, literature, cake decorating and many other courses. In their face-to-face teaching, WEA tutors work in partnership with the students and believe that everyone has something to offer in their sessions. Everyone's viewpoint, knowledge and experience is valuable to the group discussions, and this is how their online courses work too.

The current pandemic has meant that tutors and students had to learn new skills very quickly to help them with their teaching and learning.

However, their online courses became a lifeline – particularly for people who had to shield and had little or no contact with the outside world.  Through the Zoom sessions, students have been able to connect with other like-minded people, learn something new or improve skills and understanding.

They work with students who need extra support to help them understand how to use Canvas and Zoom.  Those who did take the plunge all reported that they enjoyed the courses.  You don't need any fancy tech, either. To take part in your chosen course, you can use a Smartphone, tablet or computer (laptop or desktop).

Signing up is easy, take a look at their brochure and find the course number of the activity that you are interested in and either go online or telephone the WEA – the details are on the brochure.  People who are on some benefits can sign up for free.

Why not join them and learn something new?  The Brochure with full details can be downloaded below.
