Age UK’s Dementia Peer Support Project

Age UK North Yorkshire and Darlington are looking to recruit compassionate individuals with lived experience of dementia care to provide peer support to unpaid carers in the Darlington area.

The local charity wants to welcome caring, patient, and dedicated dementia peer supporters to support family carers in Darlington. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to make a real difference to the lives of people affected by dementia.

They are looking for individuals with lived experience of dementia care – be they an ex-carer or family member. Ideally, these people will have cared for someone a number of years ago and/or be able to talk about this time without experiencing their own distress. Peer supporters will visit an unpaid carer in their own home and build a safe and trusting relationship with them based on non-judgemental listening and shared experience.

All volunteers will receive full training, regular supervision and ongoing support to ensure that they feel confident in their role.

If this opportunity interests you, get in touch with Age UK at enquiries@ageuknyd.org.uk or 01325 362832.
