Volunteers needed in Darlington - Guide Dogs

The organisation 'Guide Dogs' are in much need of volunteers in Darlington to support visually impaired individuals get out and about.

Guide Dogs needs people like you to help support people in your local community living with sight loss.

Across the North East, there are people with a vision impairment hoping that others will volunteer as a ‘My Sighted Guide’ to help them to get out and about in their local area.

Living with sight loss can cause someone to feel isolated and cut off from the people and places around them, and you could help change that. By volunteering with the charity Guide Dogs as a My Sighted Guide, you will be matched with someone with sight loss and meet with them occasionally to safely guide them so that they can visit places in their local area and gain more confidence. This could include activities like walking around the park, visiting a local café, shops, or attending a local music or sports event.

Volunteering will not only help someone in your community to live the life they choose, but it is great for you too! As well having the satisfaction of knowing you are supporting someone with sight loss to live actively, independently, and well, first hand; you will also gain new skills, have fun socialising, and support your own health and wellbeing in the process. You may even win an award at the annual Guide Dogs North East Volunteer Awards!
