Organisation of the week - Sustrans

Our next organisation of the week is Sustrans!

About Sustrans

Sustrans is the charity that is making it easier to walk, wheel and bike. Non-vehicle travel can be more convenient, and is better for your physical and mental health than sitting in traffic, and better for the environment too! Find out more on a free Zoom session Weds 20 March, 6-7pm, zoom code available by emailing us on darlingtonactivetravel@sustrans.org.uk or mary.drew@sustrans.org.uk. Sustrans has all sorts of ways to support people embracing a more active lifestyle:

- Guided rides and walks with like-minded people

- Learn to ride sessions

- “Back in the saddle” sessions for folks who haven’t been on a bike for decades (like me! I got a bike after a 30 year gap)

- Travel planning sessions

- Volunteer opportunities

- Dr Bike “MOTs” , Roadside Repair workshops, and security marking

- We aim to be disabled friendly

All free!

We’ve all worked hard here at the local Sustrans hub to identify shortish beginners rides that are “disabled” friendly or applicable to someone who is trying to get back into the habit of biking. Likewise we have a few intermediate rides of 18-20 miles that’ll appeal to someone wanting more of a challenge. We can be found at the library on Tuesdays 1pm to about 3pm, and every other Monday in the market place, inside, in the middle, from 10am to about 1pm, offering our Dr Bike bike check-ups. Our Roadside Repairs have been monthly and are now switching to every 3 weeks, in South Park – interested parties should contact us or keep an eye on the Facebook page.
