Functional Skills Courses
We are officially booking initial assessments for our functional skills maths, English, ESOL and Digital skills courses! Our assessments are held weekly at The Coleridge centre (DL1 5AJ), Fridays at 1pm. Upskill for Employment - Health & Social Care (Domiciliary Care)– From 1st September to 5th September – Monday to Friday – 10am till 3pm – Coleridge Centre, Darlington, DL1 5AJ (1 week)

Family Health & Happiness – Wednesday’s, 10am till 12pm, 10th Sept – 8th Oct, McNay Street Children’s Centre (5 weeks)
This course is for parent or carers that are looking to develop their skills in maintaining a happy and healthy home.
Parenting Together – Friday’s, 12:45pm till 2:45pm, 19th Sept – 17th Oct, McNay Street Children’s Centre (5 weeks)
You will learn how to identify effective parenting strategies, promote self-esteem, use positive communication skills and much more.
Courses for the Community
Computers for Beginners - Monday’s, 9:30am till 11:30am, 8th Sept – 17th Nov, Darlington Library (10 weeks)
This course is for those who want a basic understanding of computers and how to use them.
Round the World Cooking – Tuesday’s, 1pm till 3pm, 9th Sept – 7th Oct, The Edge Centre (5 weeks)
Are you spending loads of money on takeaways but just love those delicious flavours? Looking for some healthier alternatives?
Cooking on a Budget – Tuesday’s, 10am till 12pm, 9th Sept – 7th Oct, McNay Street Children’s Centre (5 weeks)
The course will cover food costing comparisons, supermarket tricks and plenty of recipes, like homemade pizzas, quiche and soup.
Creative Crafts – Thursday’s, 1pm till 3pm, 11th Sept – 9th Oct, Darlington Library (5 weeks)
Each week, the course will focus on a different craft, and they will vary from course to course, but may include clay creations, needle felting and material canvas designs.

Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Schools – Wednesday’s 9am till 12pm, 17th Sept – 10th Oct, The Coleridge Centre (12 weeks)
This in person course is for people interested in volunteering or working in schools with the opportunity to develop your knowledge on the delivery of the national curriculum, understanding of the school structure, behaviour management and much more.
Learning & Skills is a further education and training provider based in Darlington. We offer a number of FREE courses to help local adults gain in confidence, upskill and get the job they want. These range for pre-entry level courses for people with limited skills and experience, through to a-level equivalent qualifications. We also offer apprenticeships and courses for younger learners aged between 16 and 18.
