Reforms To Disability Confident Scheme
The following information is directly from the Department of Work and Pensions
These reforms will be trialled with employers alongside the work taking place in the Keep Britain Working Review Vanguards. They include:
- Encouraging employers to progress up the Disability Confident scheme levels. The scheme has three levels of commitment – the time employers can remain at the entry level will be reduced from 3 years to 2 years, and the option for them to renew at this level will be removed.
- Tailoring support for SMEs to their needs and capabilities, so that businesses of all sizes can benefit.
- Connecting employers so that they can access peer-to-peer support and share good practice, with practical resources so that they can tap into the scheme’s full potential.
- Reflecting the views and voices of disabled people throughout the scheme so that guidance reflects real experiences.
These reforms are aimed at making employers’ experience on the scheme more meaningful and impactful on their organisations, incentivising them to progress their Disability Confident status and make their workplaces more inclusive.
The government will work closely with current Disability Confident scheme members, SMEs, and larger businesses, including The Gym Group who are Disability Confident leaders, as well as the recently announced Independent Disability Advisory Panel to make sure that reforms are both impactful and realistic.
