The aim of the research is to select and culturally adapt a therapy for Urdu speaking British South Asians with mild to moderate dementia.

My name is Sarah and I am a PhD student at the University of Manchester. I am contacting you regarding recruitment for my research project.

The aim of the research is to select and culturally adapt a therapy for Urdu speaking British South Asians with mild to moderate dementia. The research is conducted by myself and with the help of my supervisors.

The research involves taking part in one OR two of the following a focus group to select the therapy, another focus group to scrutinise the culturally adapted therapy and a consensus process meeting. I have attached a copy of the information sheet and research poster in English and can provide translated copies of the documents in Urdu if required. All research will be conducted online.

In order to take part in this research, participants need to be:

  • A carer of an Urdu speaking British South Asian with dementia
  • British South Asian
  • Speak English and/or Urdu
  • Over the age of 18

I would greatly appreciate it, if you could circulate this and the information sheet and also invite members of your charity to take part in this research. There is no direct risk or benefit in taking part in this research however it will be a chance to learn something new for those who wish to participate.

If any member of your community would like to take part or need further information my email is sarah.mcmullen@postgrad.manchester.ac.uk.
