What is a Clinical Commissioning Group?

Clinical Commissioning Groups are NHS organisations that are responsible for the planning and purchasing of healthcare services on behalf of local people.

Tees Valley CCG is responsible for commissioning physical and mental health care for the population within the boundaries of Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland and Stockton on Tees. This includes people who are registered with a GP practice and those who are not.

Who is the volunteer group suitable for?

Anyone of any age and any background can be involved with Darlington Community Council. The more local people are involved the better, so please get in touch. Here's some examples:

Students who want to learn about the NHS and gain experience. (This is fantastic opportunity to learn more about NHS commissioning)

ANYONE who wants to make a difference to NHS decision making including patients, carers, voluntary and community group representatives, members of the public.

 ANYONE who is retired that may wish to give back to their community

What does the group do?

You will be invited to a meeting once a month where you will be able to find out about TVCCG current work and how you can be involved. You could then be supporting some of the following activities as an example;

NHS Consultations gives people the opportunity to respond and to tell the NHS what they think about specific areas of their work. Sometimes they do this by holding events and other times they ask questions online. You might help share surveys and questionnaires in your community ensuring local people in Darlington can take part.

Community Engagement When its safe to do so you could be visiting community venues to gather patient views about the NHS which can then be shared with TVCCG directly.

Sharing your views and ideas As local patient volunteer members you will know your town best. You will be able to share your ideas and views helping TVCCG connect with local people.
