Funding opportunities for voluntary organisations with Neighbourly

Here at Neighbourly, we work with Aldi, Lidl, M&S, Sainsbury's and Getir to help them to redistribute their surplus food to local charities and community groups through regular weekly collections.

Our schemes with Aldi, Lidl and Sainsbury’s include fruit and vegetables, bakery, non-perishable food and flowers/garden items. Our scheme with M&S includes these food types and chilled/frozen food as well. We are unable to facilitate donations of certain items/food types only or one-off donations.

Partners are expected to collect all of the items available (within reason) to avoid food wastage which could otherwise be redistributed into the local community. Please let us know if any of these items would not be suitable for your project.

How to apply to collect food surplus:

1.     Sign up to become part of the Neighbourly community:

Register by creating a page on Neighbourly for your organisation. This should include a detailed summary about your organisation and how you will use the food donations, as well as any supporting pictures and website/social media links. Please also add a main image to your page and make sure that your categories, organisation type and impact sections are filled in.

By setting up a page you will be agreeing to our terms and conditions. Please note that you must be an established community organisation, school or charity to join our schemes - we are not able to partner with PLCs or for-profit organisations for food donations.

Upload a current Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate to the 'food approval' section of your page. Alternatively, you can add a link to the Food Standards Agency (FSA) Rating for your organisation.

2.     Our vetting team will look at your page within 1 week and they will either approve you for food collections or we may have to ask you for more information about your work. All information regarding your activity should be uploaded to your Neighbourly page.

3.     If you are approved for food collections we will then get in touch with any availability at stores within 6 miles of your premises. Please note that we might not get in touch with you straight away - this is dependent on the collection slots we have available and may take some time.

At Neighbourly, we also work with other businesses to provide opportunities for remote volunteering and fundraising, and by creating a Neighbourly page you will also be able to keep up to date with these opportunities. For more information on our volunteering or fundraising schemes you can email community@neighbourly.com

Funding and Grants: through Neighbourly your organisation can hear about new grants and funding opportunities from our business partners. Grants in 2021 ranged from £400 - £10,000.

Volunteer Support: Neighbourly works with its business partners and their skilled teams to connect charities and local causes with volunteer support throughout the year, including remote and in-person opportunities. Food and Products: sign up to collect surplus food from supermarkets and depots to support services such as food banks, community fridges and lunch clubs.
