Historically parents and carers have told Healthwatch Darlington that they wish to see more support for parents in Darlington. Suggestions have included peer support groups, more support during the waiting period for diagnosis and information about other support available.

In reports from 2015/16 and 2018 we called for more support groups to be available for parent carers supporting families who care for children with emotional and mental health problems.

Our latest research in 2020 overwhelmingly highlighted that 73% of parent carers we spoke to were still unsatisfied with the support offered during the waiting period.

We called for Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust and Tees Valley Clinical Commissioning Group to consider the offer for parent/carers/individuals in terms of local Darlington peer support groups that are accessible.

We are pleased to share Together for Better - Parent Carer Forum are working hard with NHS services to develop a new support group for parents in Darlington.

It's really important parent and carers share their feedback and ideas. You can do this in a number fo ways.
